Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and MechaSquid when you use the website, its connector for AI assistants (the MCP server) and its API keys (together, “the service”). By creating an account or using the service you accept them. If you do not agree, please do not use it. How we handle your data is in the privacy policy.

1. The service

MechaSquid is a place to write books and keep everything around them: a wiki of your world, an outline, a timeline, maps, comments and revisions, which AI assistants you choose can read and work on. It is in early access: free of charge, open by invitation, and still changing. Features may be added, changed or removed, and limits (for example how many pictures you can generate in a month) may change.

2. Your account

  • You must be at least 13 years old, and old enough under the law where you live to agree to these terms yourself or with a parent's permission.
  • Keep your sign-in, invitation codes, API keys and share links to yourself. You are responsible for what happens through your account, including what the AI apps you connect and the API keys you create do there.
  • One person per account. Invitation codes are for the person they were given to.

3. Your work is yours

  • You own everything you write and upload: your text, your notes, your pictures and your data. We claim no ownership of it.
  • So that the service can work, you give us permission to store, copy, process and display your content only to run the service for you: to show it to you, to create the things MechaSquid makes from it (summaries, search, links, exports), to send it to the AI apps you connect and to the models behind the built-in features you use, and to show it to the readers you share it with. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account.
  • We do not publish your work, sell it, or use it to train AI models.
  • You can take everything with you at any time through export.

4. You are responsible for what you write and share

  • You are responsible for your content and for who you share it with. We do not read or review what you write.
  • Only upload what you have the right to use. If you add text or pictures by someone else, make sure you are allowed to.
  • Text and pictures made by AI (yours, the built-in features', or a connected assistant's) can be wrong or resemble existing work. Check them before you rely on them or use them elsewhere; you decide what goes into your book.
  • Fiction may explore anything a book can: crime, violence, war, abuse, cruelty. Writing about something is not doing it, and these terms do not restrict your stories. They restrict what you do with the service.

5. What you may not do

  • Break the law, or help someone else break it, through the service.
  • Store or share sexual content involving minors, in any form, including fiction and generated pictures. We will remove it, close the account and report it where the law requires.
  • Upload content that infringes someone else's rights, or use the service to harass, threaten or deceive people, including through share links and comments.
  • Upload malware, or try to get into accounts, data or parts of the service that are not yours.
  • Overload or disrupt the service, get around its limits or its invitation gate, or scrape it in bulk.
  • Resell or rent out access to the service.

6. AI apps and other services

When you connect an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT, it acts on your behalf with the permissions you gave it, and your use of it is also governed by its provider's terms. We are not responsible for what those apps do or say, though we show you what they did in MechaSquid and let you undo it or disconnect them at any time.

7. Sharing

A shared copy is private: only people with its link or invitation can read it. Anyone who has a link can pass it on, so share it with care; you can revoke a link or remove a reader at any time, and it stops working at once. Readers may comment on what you shared; they must follow these terms too.

8. Suspension and ending

  • You can stop using the service at any time, and delete your account on your Account page. It stops at once and everything is erased seven days later; signing in during that week cancels it.
  • We may limit, suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other people at risk. Where we can, we will tell you why first and give you the chance to export your work.
  • Early access may end, or the service may change to paid plans. We will announce such changes ahead of time and you will always be able to export your work. Nothing will be charged without your explicit agreement to a price.

9. No guarantees

We work hard to keep your work safe and the service running, but it is provided as it is and as available, without warranties of any kind. It may have bugs, be unavailable at times, or lose data. Keep your own copies of work that matters to you: export regularly.

10. Limits of our liability

The service is free. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits or lost data, and our total liability to you for anything related to the service is limited to 100 euros. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or takes away the rights consumer law gives you where you live.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. Important changes are announced on the website before they apply; if you keep using it afterwards, the new terms apply. If you do not agree, you can export your work and stop using it.
