# MechaSquid

> MechaSquid is a writing app for novelists: a quiet place to write the book, and a living story bible (characters, places, timeline, outline, continuity checks) that the author's own AI assistant, such as Claude or ChatGPT, can read and keep up to date through MCP. The prose stays the author's.

MechaSquid is a web app at https://mechasquid.com. It is free during early access. Authors write in it directly; their AI assistant connects to it over MCP.

- MCP server (Streamable HTTP): https://mcp.mechasquid.com/mcp
- Apps that sign in (Claude, ChatGPT): add the address as a custom connector; OAuth 2.1 with PKCE, the author allows the app on https://mechasquid.com.
- Own agents: an API key from a book's Settings, sent as an `X-Api-Key` header or a Bearer token. A key reaches one world.
- Start by calling the `help` tool with no topic.
- The author's prose changes only with their consent: agents propose revisions that wait for the author.
